Senate Concurrent Resolution 669

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATION OF THE 2014-2015 COPIAH-LINCOLN COMMUNITY COLLEGE "LADY WOLVES" BASKETBALL TEAM, HEAD COACH GWYN YOUNG AND ASSISTANT COACH NIKKI WILLIAMS FOR WINNING THE 2015 MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGES STATE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, in an outstanding performance, the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves Basketball Team defeated the Meridian Lady Eagles 78-60 on February 26 to win the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Championship in Wesson, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves Basketball Team won the MACJC South Division with an undefeated 14-0 record; and

     WHEREAS, the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves Basketball Team finished the season with a 27-1 overall record; and

     WHEREAS, the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves Basketball Team won its 17th MACJC State Championship, the 8th under Head Coach Gwyn Young; and

     WHEREAS, the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves Basketball Team was ranked No. 16 in the final National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll; and

     WHEREAS, sophomore Claresa Banks was named NJCAA First Team All-Region 23 and MACJC First Team All-State; and

     WHEREAS, freshman Alexis Collins was named MACJC First Team All-State; and

      WHEREAS, freshman Kelley Allen was named MACJC Second Team All-State; and

     WHEREAS, sophomores Tyra Gibson and Claresa Banks were named to the MACJC South All-Star Team; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2015 Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves Basketball Team and Head Coach Gwyn Young for winning the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future athletic and academic successes.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Gwyn Young and Copiah-Lincoln Community College President Dr. Ronnie Nettles, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
