A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF DR. KATHERINE TERESA "KATIE" PATTERSON, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

     WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi suffered the loss of an exemplary family physician in Katherine Teresa "Katie" Patterson, MD, who passed away on September 4, 2022; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Patterson grew up in southern Mississippi, attending Hattiesburg High School and the University of Southern Mississippi, where she graduated magna cum laude, before moving to Jackson and attending the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, where she graduated magna cum laude, Alpha Omega Alpha, and Phi Kappa Phi in May 2003; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Patterson completed her family medicine residency as well as a women's health fellowship from the Corpus Christi Family Practice Residency Program, and then followed her heart back to Mississippi, where she joined the Indianola Family Medical Group and South Sunflower County Hospital in 2007, establishing a large practice in the underserved Mississippi Delta, providing full spectrum care, including obstetrics during her entire time in practice; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Patterson served future physicians in the State of Mississippi as a passionate advocate for the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program and the Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce, and also as a teacher, educating countless medical students and residents, hosting rural rotations, obstetrical blocks, lectures, and mentoring; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Patterson was recognized for her exemplary contributions to family medicine in July 2022, with her selection for the John B. Howell Memorial Award as the Family Physician of the Year by the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Patterson is survived by her husband, David, and their sons Samuel, Reilly, Nicholas, and John Kastens; and

     WHEREAS, the loss of Katie Patterson leaves a hole that will never be filled in the hearts and lives of her patients, colleagues, friends, and family;

     Now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY the senate of the State of Mississippi, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate with deep gratitude the life of Dr. Katherine Fokakis Patterson for her inspirational dedication and extraordinary service to her patients, to the family of medicine, and to the State of Mississippi;

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Dr. Katherine Fokakis "Katie" Patterson and the President of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians, and made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
