A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to require the north carolina department of transportation to increase passenger rail fares to eliminate the operating SUBSIDY provided to amtrak.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Effective July 1, 2011, the Department of Transportation shall arrange with the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (AMTRAK) to raise fares by an average of eleven dollars ($11.00) per ticket on State‑subsidized passenger trains contracted by this State so as to eliminate the State subsidy.

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
