A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to provide that the prohibition regarding the carrying of a concealed weapon on educational property does not apply to an armed security guard at a college, university, or public school while discharging the guard's duties.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 14‑269.2(g) is amended by adding a new subdivision to read:

"(8)      A person registered under Chapter 74C of the General Statutes as an armed security guard when acting in the discharge of the guard's duties and with the permission of the college, university, or superintendent of the local school administrative unit. At the request of any local law enforcement agency, the college, university, or superintendent of the local school administrative unit, as appropriate, shall provide to the agency a list of the armed security guards employed by the college, university, or local board of education, and shall update the list as needed. No person who satisfies the criteria of this subdivision is guilty of a criminal violation of this section because the person's name is not included in the list provided to the local law enforcement agency."

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective December 1, 2015.
