CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
An Assembly Resolution recognizing and promoting the observance of "International Wash Day" on May 26, 2012.
Whereas, Washing clothes is a universal human activity, during which time people often connect with others, share experiences, and engage in important dialogue; and
Whereas, Public discourse about important global and national issues, including poverty, domestic violence, health, prejudice, and oppression, may begin in small ways in our local communities; and
Whereas, May 26, 2012 will be observed as "International Wash Day," using laundry as a metaphor for positive discourse and for honoring the significance of the work of women in building connected, collaborative, and caring communities; and
Whereas, The goal of "International Wash Day" is to create a virtual wash line using participatory art, such as poetry, painting, and music, as well as technology and personal discourse, to raise awareness of issues of equality and social justice and to demonstrate community and solidarity; and
Whereas, "International Wash Day" will raise awareness of the many voices of women who are missing or at risk in our communities and worldwide; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
