SYNOPSIS

     Condemns Hamas for its attacks on Israel and supports Israel's right to exist.

An Assembly Resolution condemning Hamas for its attacks on Israel and supporting Israel's right to exist.

 

Whereas, On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists launched a massive, unprovoked war on Israel by air, land, and sea, including firing thousands of rockets; and

Whereas, This heinous assault took place just after the 50th anniversary of the start of the multi-front 1973 Yom Kippur War against Israel; and

Whereas, Hamas terrorists crossed the land border and began killing Israelis, abducting persons as hostages, slaughtering ordinary civilians and entire families, including babies and elderly people, setting houses on fire, and raping women; and

Whereas, Since October 7, 2023, Hamas launched over 4,500 rockets into southern and central Israel, at least 1,400 people have been confirmed dead in Israel, of whom 30 were American citizens, and another 3,400 have been injured; and

Whereas, Hamas is a Foreign Terrorist Organization, designated as such by the United States and the European Union, for its history of suicide bombings and rocket attacks against Jewish people and the State of Israel; and

Whereas, Israel is a non-NATO ally and strategic partner of the United States, and the United States has declared its commitment to Israel, reaffirming our 75-year partnership with Israel and the Jewish people in the advancement of our shared democratic values and cultural ties; and

Whereas, The Israeli people and its government have shown unwavering bravery in response to the unprovoked act of terrorism by Hamas; and

Whereas, The State of New Jersey is proud of its strong relationship with Israel and its citizens, and reaffirms its commitment to Israel in the face of these terrorist attacks; and

Whereas, New Jersey condemns the terrorist acts of Hamas against Israel and supports Israel as it defends itself; now, therefore,

 

     Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  This House strongly condemns Hamas for its terroristic attacks against Israel and the atrocities perpetrated against innocent people. 

 

     2.  This House stands with Israel as it defends itself against Hamas, and supports Israel's right to exist.  

 

     3.  Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the Prime Minister of Israel, Israel's Ambassador to the United States, the United States Ambassador to Israel, and each member of Congress elected from this State.
