SYNOPSIS

     Urges US House of Representatives censure Representative Tlaib and condemn comments on Holocaust.

A Senate Resolution urging the United States House of Representatives to censure Representative Rashida Tlaib and condemn her comments on the Holocaust.   

 

Whereas, Rashida Tlaib is a politician and lawyer serving as the United States Representative for Michigan's 13th Congressional District; and

Whereas, Representative Tlaib is the first Palestinian-American woman to be elected to Congress; and

Whereas, Representative Tlaib participated in a podcast wherein she made comments regarding the Holocaust that were deemed offensive by many people; and

Whereas, These comments were made just days after the annual Day of Holocaust Remembrance; and

Whereas, More than six million Jews were killed during the Holocaust, and such comments should not be tolerated; and

Whereas, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should take action to censure Representative Tlaib for her comments, and make it clear that these comments have no place in Congress; now, therefore,

 

     Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    This House urges the United States House of Representatives to censure Representative Rashida Tlaib and condemn her comments regarding the Holocaust. 

 

     2.    Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the President and Vice President of the United States, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, the President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate, the Minority Leader of the United States Senate, and each member of Congress elected from this State.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This resolution urges the United States House of Representatives to censure Representative Rashida Tlaib and condemn her comments regarding the Holocaust. 

     Representative Tlaib is the first Palestinian-American woman to be elected to Congress.  She participated in a podcast wherein she made comments regarding the Holocaust that were deemed offensive by many people.  These comments were made just days after the annual Day of Holocaust Remembrance.  More than six million Jews were killed during the Holocaust, and these comments should not be tolerated. 

     House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should censure Representative Tlaib for her comments and make it clear that these comments have no place in Congress.
