SIMON -- read once and referred to the Committee on Housing -- recommitted to the Committee on Housing in accordance with Assembly Rule 3, sec. 2 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said commit- tee AN ACT to amend the public housing law, in relation to establishing the lease and landlord fraud public awareness program to promote public awareness of the potential risks of signing a fraudulent lease with an individual misrepresenting themselves as a landlord The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The public housing law is amended by adding a new section 2 20-a to read as follows: 3 § 20-a. Lease and landlord fraud public awareness program. 1. The 4 lease and landlord fraud public awareness program is hereby established 5 within the division to promote public awareness of the potential risks 6 of signing a fraudulent lease with an individual misrepresenting them- 7 selves as a landlord. 8 2. The division shall: 9 a. develop a public education and outreach campaign including, but not 10 limited to, written materials and brochures to promote lease and land- 11 lord fraud awareness and educate the general public on fraudulent leases 12 and individuals misrepresenting themselves as landlords; and 13 b. develop educational materials and brochures which shall be made 14 available to the general public and local municipalities. 15 § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after 16 it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend- 17 ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen- 18 tation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and 19 completed on or before such effective date.
