       AN  ACT to amend the election law, in relation to prohibiting the publi-
         cation or posting of election documents containing original signatures
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section  1. The election law is amended by adding a new section 17-172
    2  to read as follows:
    3    S 17-172. PUBLICATION OF ORIGINAL SIGNATURES PROHIBITED.    NO  PERSON
    4  SHALL  POST  OR PUBLISH OR PERMIT THE POSTING OR PUBLISHING OF ANY DOCU-
    5  MENT OBTAINED UNDER ANY PROVISION OF THIS CHAPTER THAT  CONTAINS  COPIES
    6  OF ORIGINAL SIGNATURES EXCEPT IN CONNECTION WITH A REVIEW OF SUCH SIGNA-
    7  TURES  FOR  THE  PURPOSE  OF OBJECTING TO A PETITION OR FOR COMMENCING A
    8  PROCEEDING UNDER ARTICLE SIXTEEN OF THIS CHAPTER OR PURSUANT TO AN ORDER
    9  OF A COURT OF COMPETENT JURISDICTION. A VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION  SHALL
   10  BE A MISDEMEANOR.
   11    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
