         tee on Election Law
       AN  ACT to amend the election law, in relation to prohibiting candidates
         for election to a public  office  from  accepting  contributions  from
         charitable organizations
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 14-114 of the election law is amended by  adding  a
    2  new subdivision 1-a to read as follows:
    3    1-A.  NO CANDIDATE FOR ELECTION TO ANY PUBLIC OFFICE OR FOR NOMINATION
    4  FOR ANY SUCH OFFICE, OR FOR ELECTION TO ANY PARTY POSITION, OR A  TREAS-
    5  URER  OF  A  CAMPAIGN  COMMITTEE, SHALL ACCEPT ANY CONTRIBUTION FROM ANY
    6  CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION OR ANY OTHER TAX EXEMPT NOT-FOR-PROFIT ENTITY.
    7    ANY PERSON WHO VIOLATES ANY PROVISION OF  THIS  SUBDIVISION  SHALL  BE
    8  SUBJECT  TO  A CIVIL FINE IN THE AMOUNT OF FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR EACH
    9  OFFENSE COMMITTED.
   10    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
