        MOURNING    the    death    of   Abraham   Snyder,
        distinguished citizen, and  devoted  member  of  his
        community

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, Abraham Snyder of the Bronx, New York, died on February  3,
2023, at the age of 86; and

  WHEREAS,  Abraham Snyder, affectionately known as Abe, distinguished
himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and  substantial
contribution to the welfare of his community; and

  WHEREAS,  Abraham  Snyder's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over  into  all  fields  of  enterprise,  including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

  WHEREAS, Born to Edward and Rosetta Snyder in Picayune, Mississippi,
Abraham  Snyder  was  instilled with a great sense of faith; he attended
Union Baptist Church, where he participated  in  many  youth  activities
with his brothers; and

  WHEREAS,  Abraham  Snyder attended Southern University and graduated
in 1959 with his Bachelor of  Science  degree;  in  1960,  he  moved  to
Harlem, New York; and

  WHEREAS,  Soon  after  moving to New York, Abraham Snyder joined the
Mount Olivet Baptist  Church  where  he  was  an  active  Sunday  School
teacher; and

  WHEREAS,  Abraham Snyder met his beloved wife, Lucinda Brumfield, in
the spring of 1962; certain of  their  undeniable  connection,  the  two
blissfully married on December 1st of the same year; and

  WHEREAS, Serving as a social worker in the city of New York, Abraham
Snyder  was  able  to  keep  families  together  and work to find better
environments for many; and

  WHEREAS, Abraham Snyder was a founding member of the Association  of
Black  Social  Workers,  and served as a member of the Urban League, the
NAACP, Chama, and other action groups working to make  life  better  for
his  surrounding  community; pridefully, he was a founding member of the
African American Day Parade, Inc.,  which  highlights  African  American
culture,  heritage,  and  unity, showcases the best and brightest of the
community, and commemorates legacies; and

  WHEREAS, Abraham Snyder is survived by  wife,  Lucinda  Snyder;  two
children,  Sheila  Robinson  and  David  Snyder;  granddaughter, Jasmine
Robinson;  great  grandson,  Akil  Bakari  Robinson  Harris;  his  three

brothers,  Edward  Snyder,  Walter  Snyder,  and Arthur Snyder; and many
nieces and nephews; and

  WHEREAS,  Armed  with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Abraham Snyder leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting  memory  to  all  he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Abraham Snyder, distinguished  citizen,  and  devoted
member of his community; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Abraham Snyder.
