Senate Resolution No. 999 BY: Senator PARKER COMMENDING the Brooklyn Children's Museum upon the occasion of hosting its Spring Gala on June 1, 2023 WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality of life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by its exceptional cultural, educational and recreational institutions; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Brooklyn Children's Museum upon the occasion of hosting its Spring Gala on Thursday, June 1, 2023, in Brooklyn, New York; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1899 as the world's first children's museum, Brooklyn Children's Museum (BCM) is New York City's largest cultural institution designed especially for families; and WHEREAS, Proudly based in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Children's Museum serves 300,000 children and caregivers annually with exhibits and programs grounded in visual arts, music and performance, natural science, and world cultures; and WHEREAS, Inspired by the energy and diversity of its borough, Brooklyn Children's Museum creates experiences that ignite curiosity, celebrate identity, and cultivate joyful learning; and WHEREAS, Brooklyn Children's Museum exhibits and programs are rooted in interdisciplinary and inquiry-based learning which is grounded within its vast collection and encourages children to explore their world from multiple perspectives; and WHEREAS, Furthermore, this vital institution promotes sensory learning through hands-on, physical experiences; the appreciation of culture and community, with a focus on socio-emotional learning and interpersonal relationships; stimulating parent-child dialogue and providing family resources; and empowering children to think of themselves as agents of community change and inspire responsible and civic engagement; and WHEREAS, In all of its work and business practice, BCM commits to its Brooklyn community by serving all families regardless of ability to pay; building community for parents and children; reaching beyond its walls into schools and other neighborhoods; using local vendors and supporting small business; employing Brooklynites and supporting their families by paying 100% of health premiums for staff, their spouses and dependents; and providing space and sharing resources with other Brooklyn-based CBOs; and WHEREAS, The success of the Brooklyn Children's Museum is in direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated staff and board, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when institutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend the Brooklyn Children's Museum upon the occasion of hosting its Spring Gala on June 1, 2023; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the Brooklyn Children's Museum.
