Senate Resolution No. 1406

        MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
        May  7,  2019,  as  Teacher  Appreciation Day in the
        State of New York

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this  Legislative  Body  to  officially
highlight   the  professionals  who  use  their  skills,  patience,  and
compassion to educate our children; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body memorializes Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
to proclaim May 7, 2019, as Teacher Appreciation Day in the State of New
York,  in  conjunction  with  the   observance   of   National   Teacher
Appreciation Day; and

  WHEREAS, National Teachers Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 7,
2019;  this  day  honors  our  teachers  who help to build a platform of
success for each student's future; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body wishes to recognize the  impact  that
all  of  our teachers have on students; preschool, elementary, secondary
teachers, ELL teachers, Career and  Technical  Education  teachers,  and
teachers of children with special needs; and

  WHEREAS,  Our  teachers  serve  as  mentors,  providing  support for
students  to  develop  critical  thinking  skills  in  order  to  become
responsible  and  informed members of society, which is necessary to our
American democracy; and

  WHEREAS, Teachers in the State of New York, and across  the  Nation,
will  be  given  the  special recognition that they deserve May 7, 2019,
further educating all of us on how  they  make  schools  accessible  for
every  child  and  celebrate  diversity  in  the  classroom, cultivating
tolerance and acceptance among students; and

  WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize  the
educators  of New York State who teach our students with open minds, who
cultivate open-mindedness in our students,  and  who  demonstrate  their
dedication  on  a  daily basis, overcoming obstacles alongside students;
now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 7, 2019, as Teacher
Appreciation Day in the State of New York; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the  State  of
New York.
