Senate Resolution No. 1595 BY: Senator COMRIE HONORING Alvin Parker upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., Queens County, on June 2, 2019 WHEREAS, The unity of our State and Nation is built upon the compassion of individuals such as Alvin Parker who uphold the values of community life and who, through their great actions, epitomize the best of humanity; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Alvin Parker upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., Queens County, to be celebrated at its 32nd Annual Black & White Awards Banquet: "Women's Empowerment, Legacy, Reclamation and Renewal" on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Antun's, Queens Village, New York; and WHEREAS, After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Briarcliffe College in 2008, Alvin Parker graduated from Atlas Barber School in 2009; and WHEREAS, Today, Alvin Parker is the founder of The Fade Game, a 5-star rated barbershop in Jamaica, Queens, just down the street from where he was raised by his grandmother, Mary; and WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his community, Alvin Parker has used barbering as a platform to mentor, guide and train young men during the college application process; he also sponsors New York City Finest AAU Basketball Team; and WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Alvin Parker, The Fade Game annually partners with Cavalry Baptist Church to provide free back to school haircuts for South Jamaica, Queens residents; additionally, a Christmas Toy Drive is held each year which has resulted in more than 400 new toys and books donated to Morning Star Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, The success of The Fade Game is in direct correlation to the efforts of Alvin Parker, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the business and the community it serves; and WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individual for the benefit of others which Alvin Parker has displayed throughout his life; and WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to Alvin Parker, that future generations may know and appreciate his admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Alvin Parker upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., Queens County, on June 2, 2019; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Alvin Parker.
