Senate Resolution No. 1958 BY: Senator BRESLIN MOURNING the death of John M. Grassia III, New York State Trooper and Chief Warrant Officer 2 in the New York Army National Guard WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, John M. Grassia III of Rotterdam, New York, died on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the age of 30; and WHEREAS, John M. Grassia III distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and WHEREAS, While on a federal mission with the National Guard, John M. Grassia III's helicopter crashed near the southern border of Texas; the soldiers were assigned to a regiment that has been operating as part of Joint Task Force North, a military unit which supports U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations on the southwestern border; and WHEREAS, John M. Grassia III's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State to express grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of courageous individuals who dedicated their purposeful lives and careers to serve and protect; and WHEREAS, John M. Grassia III lived his life with great dignity and genuine grace, always demonstrating a deep and continuing concern for the welfare of others in the great State of New York; and WHEREAS, John M. Grassia III is survived by his parents, Judi Grassia and John Grassia Jr.; sisters, Gina Grassia McDermott and Krista Grassia Rotondi; five nieces and nephews; and his German Shephard, Arlo; and WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, John M. Grassia III leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of John M. Grassia III, New York State Trooper and Chief Warrant Officer 2 in the New York Army National Guard; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of John M. Grassia III.
