        Introduced  by  Sen.  BROOKS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Consumer Protection
        AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring  that
          a  homeowner  be  provided  a cost estimate for installation of a fire
          sprinkler system
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
     2  771-b to read as follows:
     3    §  771-b.  For all private, one-family home construction contracted on
     4  or after the effective date of this section, the home construction esti-
     5  mate must include a cost estimate for the installation of a fire  sprin-
     6  kler  system.  Nothing in this section shall be construed to require the
     7  home buyer to purchase such a system.
     8    § 2. This act shall  take  effect  on  the  first  of  September  next
     9  succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
