          printed to be committed to the Committee on Women's Issues

        AN ACT to amend the public health law, in  relation  to  establishing  a
          uterine fibroids awareness and education program

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Title 6 of article 2 of the public health law, as added  by
     2  chapter  342  of  the  laws  of 2014, is amended by adding a new section
     3  267-a to read as follows:
     4    § 267-a.  Uterine fibroids awareness and  education  program.  1.  The
     5  department  shall  conduct  an  ongoing  public  awareness and education
     6  program under section two hundred seven of this article on the symptoms,
     7  diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroids and the  elevated  risk  for
     8  minority women.
     9    2.  The  department shall produce and distribute educational materials
    10  on the elevated risks of uterine fibroids for minority  women,  symptoms
    11  of  uterine  fibroids  and available treatments. Such materials shall be
    12  made available to appropriate health care providers for distribution  to
    13  patients. The department shall also provide information on the symptoms,
    14  diagnosis  and  treatment  of uterine fibroids and the elevated risk for
    15  minority women on the department's internet  website.  No  provision  of
    16  this  subdivision  shall  be  deemed  to  prohibit  the  utilization and
    17  distribution of educational materials relating thereto produced  by  any
    18  public,  private  or  governmental  entity,  in lieu of the department's
    19  production of such materials.
    20    3. The department shall periodically  review  available  data  on  the
    21  symptoms,  diagnosis  and treatment of uterine fibroids and the elevated
    22  risk for minority women and  update  the  information  provided  in  its
    23  educational materials and on its internet website, as appropriate.
    24    4.  The  department shall report every three years, commencing January
    25  first, two thousand twenty-six, to the governor, the temporary president

     1  of the senate and the speaker of the assembly on the  implementation  of
     2  this  section and any recommendations for furthering the purpose of this
     3  section.
     4    5.  Implementation  of this section shall be contingent upon and shall
     5  be conducted within appropriations made therefor.
     6    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
     7  it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition,  amend-
     8  ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen-
     9  tation  of  this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and
    10  completed on or before such effective date.
