       Introduced  by  Sen.  GRIFFO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
         printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation
       AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
         the state highway system as the "Oneida County Vietnam Veterans  Memo-
         rial Highway"
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-d to
    2  read as follows:
    3    S 344-D. PORTION OF STATE HIGHWAY  SYSTEM  TO  BE  DESIGNATED  AS  THE
    4  "ONEIDA  COUNTY  VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF
    5  THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING NEW YORK STATE ROUTE FORTY-NINE IN
    6  THE COUNTY OF ONEIDA, BEGINNING FROM THE EASTERN CITY LINE OF  THE  CITY
    7  OF  ROME  AND  CONTINUING  IN A GENERALLY SOUTHEASTERLY DIRECTION TO THE
    8  WESTERN CITY LINE OF THE CITY OF UTICA SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN  AS
    9  THE "ONEIDA COUNTY VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".
   10    S  2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
   11  lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state  highway  system
   12  as  designated  pursuant  to  section one of this act. However, to avoid
   13  confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce,  the  desig-
   14  nation  called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of a
   15  ceremonial nature and the official name of such  highway  shall  not  be
   16  changed as a result of this act.
   17    S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
