          printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules
        AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to  the  promulgation
          of  regulations for tests for water contaminants by small public water
          suppliers
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 11 of section 1112 of the public health law, as
     2  added  by  section  1  of  part  M of chapter 57 of the laws of 2017, is
     3  amended to read as follows:
     4    11. The commissioner [may] shall promulgate  regulations  pursuant  to
     5  which  the  department  may  provide financial assistance for compliance
     6  with the testing requirements of this section,  to  any  covered  public
     7  water  system  upon  a  showing  that  the costs associated with testing
     8  drinking water in compliance with this section would impose a  financial
     9  hardship. Such regulations shall, when prioritizing public water systems
    10  for  eligibility  for  financial assistance, incorporate provisions that
    11  give preference to public water systems serving less than  ten  thousand
    12  individuals.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
