        Introduced  by  Sen. AMEDORE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules
        AN ACT in relation to providing for the extension of a contract  between
          a  hospital  or  hospital  system  located  in  a certain county and a
          commercial health insurer providing  coverage  or  benefits  for  both
          fully  insured  and self-insured members; and providing for the repeal
          of such provisions upon the expiration thereof
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. A contract between a hospital or hospital system located in
     2  a  county  with  a population greater than 178,000 and less than 182,000
     3  and a commercial health insurer, providing coverage or benefits for both
     4  fully insured and self-insured members, which expired or  terminated  on
     5  or  after  May 31, 2016, shall automatically be extended, under the same
     6  terms and conditions, for an additional ninety days  during  which  time
     7  the  parties to the contract shall engage a mutually agreeable independ-
     8  ent and qualified third party to mediate the financial terms in  dispute
     9  between the parties. In selecting the third party mediator, such parties
    10  shall act reasonably and in good faith.
    11    §  2.  This  act  shall take effect immediately and shall be deemed to
    12  have been in full force and effect on and after May 31, 2016, and  shall
    13  expire and be deemed repealed January 1, 2017.
