BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE SENATE CONCURRING):

WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, the United States was 8
deliberately attacked by operatives from the al Qaeda terrorist 9
organization without regard for the sanctity of life and with the 10
utmost depravity. The attack left thousands dead in New York City, 11
Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania; and12

WHEREAS, Al Qaeda is a militant Islamist group that advocates 13
global jihad against the West and the destruction of the state of 14
Israel. Al Qaeda has been linked to multiple terrorist attacks 15
against the United States and our allies, including the 1993 World 16
Trade Center bombing, the United States Embassy bombings in Kenya 17
and Tanzania, the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole, and the September 18
11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as 19
well as numerous other attacks around the world; and20

WHEREAS, The founder of al Qaeda and its leader during the 21
course of its history of violence was Osama bin Laden who, as 22
leader of al Qaeda's war of terror, advocated that civilians, 23
including women and children, are legitimate targets of jihad; and24

WHEREAS, On May 1, 2011, forces from the United States, 25
including members of the United States Special Operations Forces 26
and national security agencies, attacked Osama bin Laden's 27
compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, killing him along with his son 28
and several other al Qaeda operatives; and 29

WHEREAS, The death of Osama bin Laden represents the 30
culmination of nearly ten years of efforts by the United States 31
Armed Forces and intelligence agencies as well as efforts of our 32
allies to bring Osama bin Laden to justice for the death and 33
destruction that he and his organization have wrought throughout 34
the world. Those efforts, most of which are not known or 35
recognized, are indicative of the courage, skill, determination, 36
and honor of the men and women who have undertaken them on behalf 37
of the citizens of the United States and freedom-loving people 38
throughout the world; now therefore be it39

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of 40
Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of the state of 41
Ohio, commend and honor the members of the United States Armed 42
Forces, including the United States Special Operations Forces, the 43
United States national security agencies, and the United States 44
intelligence community in conducting the successful operation 45
against Osama bin Laden on Sunday May 1, 2011; and be it further46

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 47
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the 48
