A RESOLUTION

Honoring the players and coaching staff of the Bethel Park High

2

School football team for winning the 2008 Western

3

Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Class AAAA

4

Football Championship and placing second in the 2008

5

Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association State Class

6

AAAA Football Championship.

7

WHEREAS, On November 22, 2008, the Bethel Park Black Hawks

8

football team became the 2008 Western Pennsylvania

9

Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) Class AAAA Champions for

10

the first time in school history by defeating Gateway High

11

School by a score of 10-6 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh; and

12

WHEREAS, On December 13, 2008, the Black Hawks became the

13

2008 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA)

14

Class AAAA football championship runner-up for the first time in

15

school history, fighting hard and falling just short of victory,

16

as they succumbed to Bethlehem Liberty High School by a score of

28-21 in overtime at Hersheypark Stadium; and

2

WHEREAS, The Black Hawks football team achieved an undefeated

3

regular season for the first time since 1964, with a record of

4

13 wins and 0 losses; and

5

WHEREAS, The Black Hawks scored their first 15-win season in

6

school history, finishing the overall season with a 15-1 record;

7

and

8

WHEREAS, The Bethel Park football team was Section Champion

9

for the first time since 1998; and

10

WHEREAS, The 2008 Black Hawks football team members were

11

distinguished by their exceptionally good character, emerging

12

victorious through their intelligent and spirited hard play,

13

love of the game and commitment to their teammates and coaches;

14

and

15

WHEREAS, Under the capable leadership of their head coach,

16

the Black Hawks' assistant coaches and support staff served with

17

great skill and dedication and contributed significantly to the

18

success of the team; and

19

WHEREAS, Throughout the 2008 season, the team received

20

exceptional support from school officials, students, parents and

21

the community, who showed their enthusiasm by attending the

22

championship game in Hershey in great numbers; therefore be it

23

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the

24

Bethel Park High School Black Hawks football team members and

25

their coaches for their victory in the 2008 Western Pennsylvania

26

Interscholastic Athletic League Class AAAA Football Championship

27

and for their competitive showing in placing second in the 2008

28

Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association State Class

29

AAAA Football Championship.
