A RESOLUTION

 

Honoring the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Beloved
Community" by designating January 20, 2013, as "Beloved
Community Day" in Bucks County and recognizing the
communities in this Commonwealth that will celebrate a
commitment to peace.

WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will be forever known
as one of the most inspirational and powerful leaders of all
time; and

WHEREAS, Dr. King's push toward equal rights and nonviolence
and his fight against poverty and international conflict made
him one of the greatest leaders in world history; and

WHEREAS, Among Dr. King's dreams was a vision of a "Beloved
Community"; and

WHEREAS, For Dr. King, the idea of a "Beloved Community" was
a realistic goal which could be achieved by people committing to
the philosophy of nonviolence; and

WHEREAS, In the "Beloved Community," poverty, hunger and
homelessness would not be tolerated; and

WHEREAS, In commemoration of Dr. King's "Beloved Community,"
communities across this Commonwealth and nation host memorial
events which embrace Dr. King's unshakeable commitment to
nonviolence and aim to encourage peace, reconciliation,
nondiscrimination, friendship and unconditional love; and

WHEREAS, On January 20, 2013, the Bristol Senior Center and
the Doylestown Presbyterian Church will host a "Beloved
Community Day" in Bucks County; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the vision
of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Beloved Community" by
designating January 20, 2013, as "Beloved Community Day" in
Bucks County and recognizing the communities in this
Commonwealth that will celebrate a commitment to peace.
