A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Beloved
2Community" by designating January 20, 2013, as "Beloved
3Community Day" in Bucks County and recognizing the
4communities in this Commonwealth that will celebrate a
5commitment to peace.

6WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will be forever known
7as one of the most inspirational and powerful leaders of all
8time; and

9WHEREAS, Dr. King's push toward equal rights and nonviolence
10and his fight against poverty and international conflict made
11him one of the greatest leaders in world history; and

12WHEREAS, Among Dr. King's dreams was a vision of a "Beloved
13Community"; and

14WHEREAS, For Dr. King, the idea of a "Beloved Community" was
15a realistic goal which could be achieved by people committing to
16the philosophy of nonviolence; and

17WHEREAS, In the "Beloved Community," poverty, hunger and
18homelessness would not be tolerated; and

1WHEREAS, In commemoration of Dr. King's "Beloved Community,"
2communities across this Commonwealth and nation host memorial
3events which embrace Dr. King's unshakeable commitment to
4nonviolence and aim to encourage peace, reconciliation,
5nondiscrimination, friendship and unconditional love; and

6WHEREAS, On January 20, 2013, the Bristol Senior Center and
7the Doylestown Presbyterian Church will host a "Beloved
8Community Day" in Bucks County; therefore be it

9RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the vision
10of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Beloved Community" by
11designating January 20, 2013, as "Beloved Community Day" in
12Bucks County and recognizing the communities in this
13Commonwealth that will celebrate a commitment to peace.
