A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of October 2009 as "Crime Prevention

2

Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council was founded in

4

1982 to manage the National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign

5

and McGruff the Crime Dog and to administer the Crime Prevention

6

Coalition of America; and

7

WHEREAS, The modern mission of the National Crime Prevention

8

Council is to help people keep themselves, their families and

9

their communities safe from crime through various programs,

10

publications and public service announcements; and

11

WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council has annually

12

designated October "Crime Prevention Month" as the official

13

month for recognizing and celebrating the practice of crime

prevention since 1984; and

2

WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council partners with

3

prevention organizations, justice advocates and other

4

professionals to build and sustain relationships with citizens

5

and public officials to promote a national crime prevention

6

agenda that will reduce the incidence of crimes, while helping

7

communities identify and address the underlying causes of

8

crimes; and

9

WHEREAS, October Crime Prevention Month brings together

10

government agencies, civic groups, schools, businesses and youth

11

organizations in a joint effort to promote awareness of

12

important issues such as victimization, volunteerism and

13

creating healthier, safer communities; therefore be it

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

15

month of October 2009 as "Crime Prevention Month" in

16

Pennsylvania.
