| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Remembering John Wesley Hartman of the City of Lancaster, former |
2 | director of the Legislative Reference Bureau. |
3 | WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has lost a valued |
4 | public servant; and |
5 | WHEREAS, John Wesley Hartman died October 9, 2009, at 79 |
6 | years of age; and |
7 | WHEREAS, A graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, Franklin |
8 | and Marshall College and Dickinson School of Law, Mr. Hartman |
9 | served with the United States Army in Japan from 1954 through |
10 | 1956; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mr. Hartman led a private law practice and served as |
12 | earned income tax officer and city solicitor for the City of |
13 | Lancaster before joining the Legislative Reference Bureau in |
|
1 | Harrisburg, where he worked as a drafting attorney from 1965 |
2 | through 1970; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Hartman additionally served as staff attorney |
4 | for the 1968 Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention; and |
5 | WHEREAS, From 1971 through 1988, Mr. Hartman served the |
6 | General Assembly as House Democratic Caucus legal counsel and |
7 | chief legal counsel; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The General Assembly elected Mr. Hartman director of |
9 | the Legislative Reference Bureau in January 1989; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Mr. Hartman was reelected as bureau director in 1991 |
11 | and 1993; and |
12 | WHEREAS, In addition to his knowledge of State government, |
13 | Mr. Hartman deeply respected Lancaster County history and |
14 | traditions and possessed an abiding enthusiasm for athletics; |
15 | and |
16 | WHEREAS, Joan Hartman, his daughter, and Jane Hartman |
17 | Fahnestock, his sister, preceded Mr. Hartman in death; therefore |
18 | be it |
19 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend its |
20 | deepest sympathies to Mr. Hartman's family, including his wife |
21 | of 58 years, Joyce Wilson Hartman, his daughters, Susan Sayre, |
22 | Julia Hunter, Rebecca Hartman, Amy Nichols, Beth Plonk and Mary |
23 | Hartman and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and be it |
24 | further |
25 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives remember John |
26 | Wesley Hartman of the City of Lancaster, former director of the |
27 | Legislative Reference Bureau, with profound appreciation for Mr. |
28 | Hartman's leadership and service on behalf of this Commonwealth; |
29 | and be it further |
30 | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to |
