| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring the life and work of Mary Jane Hazell. |
2 | WHEREAS, Mary Jane Hazell dedicated her life to improving her |
3 | community; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Along with her husband, Mrs. Hazell moved to |
5 | Somerton in 1965 and soon became an active participant in her |
6 | community; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hazell went on to spend two decades serving as |
8 | the president of the Somerton Civic Association, which strives |
9 | to implement positive change in the Somerton community; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Since the 1970s, Mrs. Hazell has presided over the |
11 | home and school associations at three different Somerton schools |
12 | and has also served as a school board member for seven years; |
13 | and |
14 | WHEREAS, In 2007, Mrs. Hazell was included on the |
15 | Philadelphia Eagles' list of the 75 Greatest Living |
16 | Philadelphians; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Individuals who worked with Mrs. Hazell remember her |

1 | as a fighter, champion and guardian; and |
2 | WHEREAS, On November 8, 2009, Mary Jane Hazell passed away |
3 | from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the age of 76; |
4 | therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life |
6 | and work of Mary Jane Hazell. |
