A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and work of Mary Jane Hazell.
WHEREAS, Mary Jane Hazell dedicated her life to improving her
community; and
WHEREAS, Along with her husband, Mrs. Hazell moved to
Somerton in 1965 and soon became an active participant in her
community; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hazell went on to spend two decades serving as
the president of the Somerton Civic Association, which strives
to implement positive change in the Somerton community; and
WHEREAS, Since the 1970s, Mrs. Hazell has presided over the
home and school associations at three different Somerton schools
and has also served as a school board member for seven years;
and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Mrs. Hazell was included on the
Philadelphia Eagles' list of the 75 Greatest Living
Philadelphians; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who worked with Mrs. Hazell remember her
as a fighter, champion and guardian; and
WHEREAS, On November 8, 2009, Mary Jane Hazell passed away
from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the age of 76;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
and work of Mary Jane Hazell.
