A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of April 2010 as "Prevention of Cruelty to

Animals Month" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The landscape of animal welfare in the United States

4

was forever changed in 1866 when the American Society for the

5

Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was founded by animal

6

rights activist Henry Bergh; and

7

WHEREAS, The ASPCA protects and assists animals in need and

8

promotes their humane care and treatment; and

9

WHEREAS, The ASPCA has championed landmark anti-cruelty laws

10

and worked tirelessly to ensure their enforcement; and 

11

WHEREAS, The ASPCA celebrates its many victories on behalf of

12

animals each April; and

WHEREAS, "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month" will

2

surpass all previous campaigns with promotional events planned

3

throughout the United States in April 2010; and

4

WHEREAS, As part of "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month,"

5

animal lovers and pets are encouraged to wear orange, the

6

official ASPCA color; and

7

WHEREAS, ASPCA supporters can register event plans and find

8

and share suggestions on how to "Go Orange for Animals" online

9

at www.ASPCAApril.org; therefore be it

10

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

11

month of April 2010 as "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month"

12

in Pennsylvania and transmit a copy of this resolution to the

13

president of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty

14

to Animals, 424 East 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128-6804.
