AN ACT

Requiring large-screen television sets sold in this Commonwealth

2

to be energy efficient.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

4

hereby enacts as follows:

5

Section 1.  Energy efficiency.

6

A television set that is 58 inches or smaller and sold in

7

this Commonwealth after the effective date of this section shall

8

conform to a two-phase energy usage reduction system of

9

regulations that shall be determined by the Department of

10

Environmental Protection.

11

Section 2.  Efficiency phases.

12

The first reduction in energy usage, to take place one year

13

after the effective date of this section, shall consist of a

14

reduction in the amount of energy that a television uses by an

15

average of 33%. The second reduction, to take place five years

16

after the effective date of this section, shall consist of a

17

reduction in the amount of energy that a television uses by an

average of 50%.

Section 3.  Regulations.

The Department of Environmental Protection shall develop

4

rules and regulations to carry out the two-phase energy usage

5

reduction system. These regulations shall be published in the

6

Pennsylvania Bulletin.

7

Section 4.  Effective date.

8

This act shall take effect as follows:

9

(1)  Section 3 of this act shall take effect immediately.

10

(2)  The remainder of this act shall take effect 30 days

11

after the publication of the regulations in section 3.
