| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the month of May 2012 as "Foster Care Month" in |
2 | Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, The family, a primary source of love, identity, |
4 | self-esteem and support, is the very foundation of our |
5 | communities and our Commonwealth; and |
6 | WHEREAS, In Pennsylvania there are approximately 24,000 |
7 | children and youth in foster care that are served by resource |
8 | families every year; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Children and youth in foster care are provided a |
10 | safe, secure and stable home and a compassionate and nurturing |
11 | foster family; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Foster families open their homes and hearts to |
13 | children whose families are in crisis; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Foster families play a vital role in helping |
15 | children and families heal and reconnect and in preparing |
16 | children for successful adulthood; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Dedicated foster families frequently adopt foster |

1 | children, resulting in a greater need for more foster families; |
2 | and |
3 | WHEREAS, In this Commonwealth foster parents adopt more than |
4 | 60% of the children in the child welfare system who have had |
5 | their goal changed to adoption; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Numerous individuals, public organizations and |
7 | private organizations are working to increase awareness of the |
8 | needs of children in foster care or leaving foster care and of |
9 | the enduring and valuable contribution of foster parents; and |
10 | WHEREAS, The foster care system is only as good as those |
11 | persons who choose to be part of it; therefore be it |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of May 2012 as |
13 | "Foster Care Month" in Pennsylvania and urge all citizens to |
14 | volunteer their talents and energies on behalf of children in |
15 | foster care, foster parents and child welfare professionals. |
