A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE RIVER BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TENNIS TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2017 SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE CLASS AAAAA GIRLS TENNIS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the River Bluff High School girls tennis team of Lexington County took top honors at the state competition on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Cayce Tennis Center; and

Whereas, the River Bluff Gators defeated the Spartanburg High School Vikings 4-2 to win the South Carolina High School League Class AAAAA Girls Tennis State Championship. This win capped off a 21-4 record for the season; and

Whereas, it took a 10-4 third set tiebreaker by Maegan Togneri to seal the title for River Bluff. Togneri lost the first set 3-6 but won the second 6-2 to force the tiebreaker. She lost the first three points in the first-to-ten tiebreaker but rallied to win ten of the final eleven points to give the Gators their first state title in the five years of the program's existence. "When Maegan was down, she knew it was going to take two sets to win," Coach Brian Lim said. "It didn't matter what happened before. She was able to refocus and trust herself, trust her game. With her confidence and the support from the team, she pulled it out."; and

Whereas, as has been their calling card all season, the Gators relied on incredible energy and a true team effort from talented players in all of the singles and doubles slots. River Bluff picked up additional wins by Liyin Zhu and Kiana Thatcher in singles and by the doubles team of Elizabeth Roquemore and Shelby Byers to set the stage for Togneri's pivotal match; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the pride and recognition that River Bluff's girls tennis team has brought to its school and community and look forward to hearing of their accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the River Bluff High School girls tennis team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2017 South Carolina High School League Class AAAAA Girls Tennis State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Dr. Luke Clamp and Coach Brian Lim.
