A house RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE THE ROCK HILL HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS WRESTLING TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR CAPTURING THE 2024 SOUTH CAROLINA GIRLS WRESTLING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO APPLAUD THEM FOR ANOTHER FABULOUS SEASON.

Whereas, on a chilly February 2024 weekend, the members of the Rock Hill High School girls wrestling team proved they were not a flash in the pan when it comes to championship titles. For the second year in a row, they pinned down the South Carolina Girls Wrestling State Championship. Moreover, it was only the second year that wrestling for girls had been officially sanctioned in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, held at the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center, the title competition allowed Head Coach Timothy (Cain) Beard, along with Assistant Coaches Eddie Cook, Scooter Weathers, Ruben Velazquez, Cody Childers, Cameron Bell, and Anthony Thomas, to see the Lady Bearcats deliver a powerful performance; and

Whereas, the result of that performance was that Rock Hill finished the tournament with 62 points, edging out runner-up Greenwood by four; and

Whereas, two big components in Rock Hill's championship win were junior Sirenity Davis and sophomore Madilyn Beck, who won individual state championships in the 105-pound and 110-pound weight classes, respectively; and

Whereas, at the title competition, Rock Hill fans were jubilant not only because their Lady Bearcats put on such a marvelous show but also because the entire championship team will be returning next year; and

Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in saluting the young athletes of the Rock Hill girls wrestling team and looks forward to hearing of their exploits in coming seasons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the Rock Hill High School girls wrestling team, coaches, and school officials for capturing the 2024 South Carolina Girls Wrestling State Championship and applaud them for another fabulous season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Ozzie Ahl and Head Coach Timothy (Cain) Beard of Rock Hill High School.
