| products originating in this state. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 433, Health and Safety | ||
| Code, is amended by adding Section 433.046 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 433.046. VOLUNTARY TEXAS MEAT AND POULTRY LABELING | ||
| PROGRAM. (a) The executive commissioner by rule shall, in | ||
| consultation with representatives of the meat and poultry industry: | ||
| (1) develop a label for meat and poultry products sold | ||
| in this state that indicates whether a meat or poultry product | ||
| originated in this state; and | ||
| (2) develop incentives for a person who sells meat or | ||
| poultry to use the label. | ||
| (b) A meat or poultry product sold in this state is not | ||
| required to include a label developed under this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date | ||
| of this Act, the executive commissioner of the Health and Human | ||
| Services Commission shall adopt rules necessary to implement | ||
| Section 433.046, Health and Safety Code, as added by this Act. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. | ||
