relating to an electronic means for voters to determine the status | ||
of ballots submitted by mail. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 86.011, Election Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: | ||
(e) This subsection applies only to an election held in a | ||
county with a population of 20,000 or more in which a federal office | ||
appears on the ballot. The early voting clerk shall make the unique | ||
identification number described by Section 86.013(h) available on | ||
the county's website and indicate whether the return of the | ||
official carrier envelope associated with the number is timely. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 86.013, Election Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (h) to read as follows: | ||
(h) This subsection applies only to an election held in a | ||
county with a population of 20,000 or more in which a federal office | ||
appears on the ballot. The secretary of state by rule shall require | ||
that a detachable receipt be attached to the official carrier | ||
envelope and a unique identification number be printed on the | ||
receipt and the reverse side of the envelope. | ||
SECTION 3. Sections 86.011(e) and 86.013(h), Election Code, | ||
as added by this Act, apply only to an election ordered on or after | ||
September 1, 2013. | ||
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
