BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter M, Chapter 401, Health and Safety | ||
Code, is amended by adding Section 401.5095 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 401.5095. CONTINUING EDUCATION. (a) The commission | ||
by rule shall: | ||
(1) establish a minimum number of hours of continuing | ||
education required for certificate or license renewal under this | ||
subchapter; and | ||
(2) recognize, prepare, or administer a continuing | ||
education program for a person certified or licensed under this | ||
subchapter. | ||
(b) The department may develop and adopt: | ||
(1) a process to evaluate or approve a continuing | ||
education provider or program; and | ||
(2) a process to assess a certificate holder's or | ||
license holder's participation in a continuing education program. | ||
SECTION 2. Not later than August 31, 2017, or as soon as | ||
practicable after the effective date of this Act if more time is | ||
required, the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall | ||
ensure rules are adopted as required by Section 401.5095, Health | ||
and Safety Code, as added by this Act. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
