A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the ownership and operation of autonomous motor
  vehicles in LaSalle Municipal Utility District Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, and
  5.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 8472, Special District
  Local Laws Code, is amended by adding Section 8472.106 to read as
  follows:
         Sec. 8472.106.  AUTONOMOUS MOTOR VEHICLES AUTHORIZED. (a)
  In this section, "autonomous motor vehicle" means a motor vehicle
  that uses autonomous technology to operate itself without the
  active control or continuous monitoring of a person.
         (b)  Notwithstanding any other law, the district may own and
  authorize the operation of autonomous motor vehicles in the
  boundaries of the district as a means of public transportation.
         (c)  The district shall adopt regulations in coordination
  with state, county, and other local officials that ensure the safe
  operation of autonomous motor vehicles in the district.
         SECTION 2.  Subchapter C, Chapter 8473, Special District
  Local Laws Code, is amended by adding Section 8473.106 to read as
  follows:
         Sec. 8473.106.  AUTONOMOUS MOTOR VEHICLES AUTHORIZED. (a)
  In this section, "autonomous motor vehicle" means a motor vehicle
  that uses autonomous technology to operate itself without the
  active control or continuous monitoring of a person.
         (b)  Notwithstanding any other law, the district may own and
  authorize the operation of autonomous motor vehicles in the
  boundaries of the district as a means of public transportation.
         (c)  The district shall adopt regulations in coordination
  with state, county, and other local officials that ensure the safe

         (c)  The district shall adopt regulations in coordination
  with state, county, and other local officials that ensure the safe
  operation of autonomous motor vehicles in the district.
         SECTION 6.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
