A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the maximum size of a municipality's extraterritorial
  jurisdiction.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 42.021, Local Government Code, is
  amended by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
         (e)  Regardless of Subsection (a), the total gross acreage of
  the extraterritorial jurisdiction of a municipality may not exceed
  50 percent of the gross acreage of the municipality. A municipality
  shall release extraterritorial jurisdiction as necessary to comply
  with this subsection.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
