| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 42.021, Local Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: | ||
| (e) Regardless of Subsection (a), the total gross acreage of | ||
| the extraterritorial jurisdiction of a municipality may not exceed | ||
| 50 percent of the gross acreage of the municipality. A municipality | ||
| shall release extraterritorial jurisdiction as necessary to comply | ||
| with this subsection. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
