BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 28.025(b-21), Education Code, is amended | ||
to read as follows: | ||
(b-21) In adopting rules under Subsection (b-1), the State | ||
Board of Education shall adopt criteria to allow a student to comply | ||
with the curriculum requirement for one credit under Subsection | ||
(b-1)(5) by successfully completing at an elementary school either | ||
a dual language immersion program under Section 28.0051 or a course | ||
in American Sign Language [ |

SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
