| proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature | ||

| BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Article V, Texas Constitution, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 33 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 33. The legislature by general law may provide for a | ||
| court to grant a commutation of punishment to certain individuals | ||
| serving a term of imprisonment. | ||
| SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
| submitted to the voters at an election to be held on | ||
| November 7, 2023. The ballot shall be printed to provide voting | ||
| for or against the proposition: "The constitutional amendment | ||
| authorizing the legislature to enact laws providing for a court to | ||
| grant a commutation of punishment to certain individuals serving a | ||
| term of imprisonment." | ||
