R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 16 participants in the 2023 Texas Folklife
  Apprenticeship in the Folk and Traditional Arts Program have
  demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the preservation of our
  state's outstanding cultural heritage; and
         WHEREAS, Since 1987, the program has supported extended,
  intensive training in a wide range of traditional art forms
  practiced by cultural communities across Texas; grant awards
  provide skilled artists and their apprentices with the time and
  resources necessary to immerse themselves in their craft; and
         WHEREAS, The 2023 artist teams reflect the richness of the
  state's cultural diversity; Jacques Houston is mentoring DaLyah
  Jones of Houston in the art of trail riding, and mentor Sonny Mehta
  is teaching Rishabh Lamsal of Houston the intricacies of qawwali, a
  Sufi devotional music genre; and
         WHEREAS, Advancing the art of Americana Folk guitar, Michael
  Sinks is mentoring Arieon Keller of Pampa, while Chayito Champion
  is pairing with apprentice Keli Rosa Cabunoc Romero of San Antonio
  to explore the connections between Son Jarocho and Flamenco music
  and dance; and
         WHEREAS, Mentor Richard Whitehead is helping William Bailey
  of Madisonville learn how to craft artisanal fishing lures, and
  Aboubacar Sylla is apprenticing Forest Cazayoux of Austin in the
  art of West African folk music; and
         WHEREAS, Priya Vadhanna Raja is mentoring Shruti Sathish of
  San Antonio in Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance form, while
  Indrajit Banerjee is guiding apprentice Milton Holbrook of San
  Antonio in his study of classical Indian Hindustani ragas on sitar;
  and
         WHEREAS, By further developing expertise in these unique
  realms, the participants in the 2023 apprenticeship program are
  contributing to the vitality of a wide range of creative
  disciplines and to the cultural enrichment of communities across
  the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the participants in the 2023 Texas
  Folklife Apprenticeship in the Folk and Traditional Arts Program
  and extend sincere best wishes for continued success in their
  endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the program participants as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
