R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
  the loss of Officer Robert Layden Hornsby of the Killeen Police
  Department, who was killed in the line of duty on July 14, 2013, at
  the age of 32; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Lexington, Kentucky, on January 17, 1981,
  Bobby Hornsby grew up in Plainview and Temple, where his family was
  involved in the restaurant business; he graduated from Temple High
  School, and he went on to attend Temple College; a caring husband
  and father, he shared a rewarding marriage with his wife, Kimberly,
  and they were the parents of two children, Braxx and Layden; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hornsby joined the Killeen Police Department in
  January 2009 as a patrol officer on the B Squad of the early morning
  watch; he was assigned to the department's SWAT unit in January
  2013, and he earned his intermediate peace officer certification
  five months later; and
         WHEREAS, Police officers put themselves in harm's way every
  day to serve and protect their fellow citizens, and the tragic death
  of this brave officer is a sobering reminder of the dangers they
  face; Robert Hornsby embodied the highest ideals of the law
  enforcement profession, and he will long be fondly remembered and
  deeply missed by all those who were privileged to know him; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  Officer Robert Layden Hornsby and extend sincere condolences
  to the
  members of his family: to his wife, Kimberly Hornsby; to his son,
  Braxx Anderson Hornsby; to his daughter, Layden Morgan Hornsby; and
  to his other relatives and friends.
