| WHEREAS, The Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department | ||
| has been honored with a 2017 Texas Arts and Humanities Programming | ||
| Achievement Award by the Texas Recreation and Park Society; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This prestigious award is given each year to | ||
| individuals and organizations in the field of parks and recreation | ||
| that have created innovative and effective programs promoting the | ||
| arts and cultural activities; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department | ||
| was recognized for the creation and distribution of its Public Art | ||
| Collection Book, which features original photos and historical | ||
| information highlighting each piece of art in the city's | ||
| collection; the department also developed an ISpy public art tour | ||
| and game to encourage children and families to search for art along | ||
| a public transportation trolley route; since their inception, these | ||
| two ongoing initiatives have enabled thousands of people to enjoy | ||
| the 78 works of art currently in the city's public collection; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The arts greatly enhance the quality of life in | ||
| Texas, and by providing opportunities that encourage residents and | ||
| visitors to learn more about art in the community, the Corpus | ||
| Christi Parks and Recreation Department has contributed | ||
| immeasurably to the cultural vitality of the Lone Star State; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate the Corpus Christi Parks and | ||
| Recreation Department on its receipt of a 2017 Texas Arts and | ||
| Humanities Programming Achievement Award from the Texas Recreation | ||
| and Park Society and extend to all those associated with the | ||
| department sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department as | ||
| an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
