R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Lung Cancer Action Week, which takes place during
  the second week in May, focuses much-needed attention on actions
  that can be taken to combat the impact of this devastating disease;
  and
         WHEREAS, Hundreds of thousands of people across the nation
  are diagnosed with lung cancer each year, and it is estimated that
  approximately every two and a half minutes, another person in the
  U.S. learns that they have the disease; and
         WHEREAS, Lung cancer kills more Americans than any other type
  of cancer; in order to ensure early detection and treatment,
  high-risk individuals are urged to take advantage of screenings for
  the disease; according to the American Lung Association, only 2
  percent of high-risk Texans were screened in 2021; and
         WHEREAS, A national initiative led by the American Lung
  Association, LUNG FORCE works to mobilize individuals across the
  nation in the fight against lung cancer; the group is committed to a
  comprehensive approach that encompasses advocacy, prevention,
  early detection, research, and support; and
         WHEREAS, Increased public awareness is a powerful weapon in
  the fight against lung cancer, and Lung Cancer Action Week serves to
  educate citizens about the importance of early intervention and
  treatment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize the second week of May as Lung Cancer
  Action Week and encourage all Texans to learn more about the
  disease.
