| WHEREAS, Victoria Velazquez of Lasara has distinguished | ||
| herself as a member of the first cohort of Luminary Scholars at The | ||
| University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This noteworthy scholarship program covers tuition | ||
| and fees for four years of undergraduate education as well as | ||
| additional years of professional or graduate studies; the program | ||
| was unveiled in 2021 with the goal of improving student success and | ||
| increasing educational opportunities; and | ||
| WHEREAS, To earn selection as a Luminary Scholar, students | ||
| must demonstrate exceptional academic ability, responsibility and | ||
| leadership, and community involvement while in high school, and | ||
| participants also commit to working in the Rio Grande Valley | ||
| following their graduation; enrolled in the Vaqueros MD program, | ||
| Ms. Velazquez is currently studying biology at UTRGV; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Throughout her academic career, Victoria Velazquez | ||
| has displayed admirable dedication and perseverance in the pursuit | ||
| of her goals, and she may indeed reflect with great pride on her | ||
| outstanding record of achievement; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor Victoria Velazquez for her | ||
| accomplishments as a Luminary Scholar at The University of Texas | ||
| Rio Grande Valley and extend to her sincere best wishes for | ||
| continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Velazquez as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
