WHEREAS, Locally owned businesses contribute significantly | ||
to the economic vitality of communities across the Lone Star State, | ||
and the Good Luck Cafe in El Paso is one such enterprise; and | ||
WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, the Puentes family has owned | ||
and operated this popular eatery; in the early 1960s, Joe Ruben | ||
Puentes opened the Good Luck Tavern in downtown El Paso; he | ||
subsequently relocated the business to Alameda Avenue, and in 1968, | ||
Mr. Puentes opened the Good Luck Cafe in a renovated gas station | ||
across the street; and | ||
WHEREAS, His wife, Elvira G. Puentes, joined the day-to-day | ||
operation of the business in 1972, and she and other family members | ||
have overseen the restaurant since the death of Mr. Puentes in 1976; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The cafe features hearty Mexican and American fare | ||
such as burritos and cheeseburgers, and over the years, the | ||
restaurant's menudo and caldo de res have become particular | ||
favorites of its faithful patrons; and | ||
WHEREAS, By offering good food in a comfortable and welcoming | ||
setting, the Good Luck Cafe remains a cherished community | ||
institution, and the continuing hard work of Elvira Puentes and | ||
others indeed merits special recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commend the Good Luck Cafe for more than half a | ||
century of service to the El Paso community and extend to its owners | ||
and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the Puentes family as an expression of high regard by | ||
the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
