| WHEREAS, Maricela De Leon has ably served her fellow Texans | ||
| during her seven years in the office of State Representative Aaron | ||
| Pena; and | ||
| WHEREAS, First volunteering for Representative Pena's | ||
| campaign in 2002, Ms. De Leon joined his staff the following year, | ||
| and she worked as a legislative aide and an assistant before | ||
| becoming his chief of staff for the 82nd Legislative Session; she | ||
| holds a bachelor's degree in finance and is now a graduate student | ||
| who expects to earn her master of public administration degree from | ||
| The University of Texas-Pan American in the summer of 2011; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. De Leon planned a Legislative Medal of Honor | ||
| ceremony in 2009 to honor Pedro Cano, a World War II veteran from | ||
| Hidalgo County, and she has worked with numerous collaborators to | ||
| establish a veterans hospital in the Rio Grande Valley; in | ||
| addition, she founded an initiative in 2009 that provides | ||
| educational tools to elementary schoolchildren in San Carlos, the | ||
| town where she was raised; specializing in veterans' issues, | ||
| education, and health and human services, she plans to pursue her | ||
| law degree and a Ph.D. in public policy and hopes to become a | ||
| diplomat; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the course of her career in state government, | ||
| Maricela De Leon has provided vital leadership and assistance in | ||
| handling a wide variety of challenging tasks, and it is fitting to | ||
| take this opportunity to recognize her for a job well done; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commend Maricela De Leon for her service in the | ||
| office of State Representative Aaron Pena and extend to her sincere | ||
| best wishes for continued success in all of her endeavors; and, be | ||
| it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. De Leon as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
