R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Maricela De Leon has ably served her fellow Texans
  during her seven years in the office of State Representative Aaron
  Pena; and
         WHEREAS, First volunteering for Representative Pena's
  campaign in 2002, Ms. De Leon joined his staff the following year,
  and she worked as a legislative aide and an assistant before
  becoming his chief of staff for the 82nd Legislative Session; she
  holds a bachelor's degree in finance and is now a graduate student
  who expects to earn her master of public administration degree from
  The University of Texas-Pan American in the summer of 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. De Leon planned a Legislative Medal of Honor
  ceremony in 2009 to honor Pedro Cano, a World War II veteran from
  Hidalgo County, and she has worked with numerous collaborators to
  establish a veterans hospital in the Rio Grande Valley; in
  addition, she founded an initiative in 2009 that provides
  educational tools to elementary schoolchildren in San Carlos, the
  town where she was raised; specializing in veterans' issues,
  education, and health and human services, she plans to pursue her
  law degree and a Ph.D. in public policy and hopes to become a
  diplomat; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of her career in state government,
  Maricela De Leon has provided vital leadership and assistance in
  handling a wide variety of challenging tasks, and it is fitting to
  take this opportunity to recognize her for a job well done; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Maricela De Leon for her service in the
  office of State Representative Aaron Pena and extend to her sincere
  best wishes for continued success in all of her endeavors; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. De Leon as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
