WHEREAS, Carmen Acosta Read of El Paso is celebrating her | ||
80th birthday on July 16, 2013, to the delight of her family and | ||
friends; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Fabens in 1933 to Santiago and Ricarda | ||
Acosta, the former Carmen Acosta attended Jefferson High School, | ||
where she participated in ROTC, played saxophone in the band, and | ||
played tennis; and | ||
WHEREAS, She married Robert Read in 1951, and the newlyweds | ||
settled into the home built by the groom and enjoyed many varied | ||
interests together such as dancing, playing pinochle, and visiting | ||
loved ones in California; they raised four children, Eileen, | ||
Richard, Susan, and Robert, and Mrs. Read volunteered as a room | ||
mother, den mother, and a member of the PTA, eventually serving the | ||
organization as president; the family created lasting memories of | ||
countless fun-filled times competing in board games, mental | ||
challenges, and backyard games, and sometimes just soaking each | ||
other with the water hose; widowed in 2009, Mrs. Read today shares | ||
in the love and affection of her children as well as 12 | ||
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, This delightful octogenarian maintains a busy | ||
lifestyle, starting each day by reading the newspaper and | ||
completing the crossword puzzle; she takes pleasure in weekly | ||
family gatherings, in travels to San Antonio, Garland, and Indiana | ||
to visit relatives, and in the friendships she has with the members | ||
of her "lunch bunch" group, the women at her church, Democratic | ||
Party volunteers, and her neighbors; always ready for new | ||
adventures, Mrs. Read has gone to a San Antonio Spurs game, | ||
appreciated mariachis playing along the River Walk in the Alamo | ||
City, visited the Dallas Cowboys training camp, and even attended | ||
the Indianapolis 500; a talented cook as well, she is renowned for | ||
the homemade tamales, menudo, and enchiladas she creates in her | ||
kitchen; and | ||
WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted circle of family and friends, | ||
Carmen Read is a source of joy and inspiration to all who are | ||
privileged to know her and to share in the richness of her life; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Carmen Acosta | ||
Read on the memorable occasion of her 80th birthday and extend to | ||
her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mrs. Read as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. |
