R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
  of Joe Henry Copes of Woodville, who passed away on February 13,
  2017, at the age of 73; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Beatrice Jackson-Copes and the Reverend
  Charles Copes, Joe Copes was born on September 13, 1943, in the
  small rural community of Dies in Tyler County and grew up with five
  siblings, Maxine, Josephine, Charlene, Wanda, and Herbert; he
  attended Scott High School in nearby Woodville and went on to serve
  his country as a member of the U.S. Army; and
         WHEREAS, A hardworking and dedicated employee, Mr. Copes
  enjoyed a successful career at Keller Industries, and he later took
  a job with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners; he
  spent two decades traveling across the country as a union
  representative before eventually retiring; he was also an active
  member of the NAACP; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Copes took great pride in his 4 children, Gerry,
  Corey, Sheila, and Tanya, and he was further blessed with 13
  grandchildren, Jason, Sylvia, Lakeidra, Phenomia, Blake, Isaac,
  Mataya, Carter, Darus, Savian, Monica, Veronica, and Vernon, as
  well as 8 great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Joe Copes will
  remember the way he touched their lives with his wisdom and strength
  of character, and he will forever be remembered with great
  admiration; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe Henry Copes and
  extend sincere condolences to his many relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe Copes.
