A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the date by which law enforcement agencies must report
  arrests to the Department of Public Safety.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subsection (d), Article 60.08, Code of Criminal
  Procedure, is amended to read as follows:
         (d)  Except as otherwise required by applicable state laws or
  regulations, information or data required by this chapter to be
  reported to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice or the
  Department of Public Safety shall be reported promptly but not
  later than the 30th day after the date on which the information or
  data is received by the agency responsible for reporting it except
  in the case of an arrest. An offender's arrest shall be reported to
  the Department of Public Safety not later than the second [seventh]
  day after the date of the arrest.
         SECTION 2.  Subsection (d), Article 60.08, Code of Criminal
  Procedure, as amended by this Act, applies only to an arrest made on
  or after September 1, 2011.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
