A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the annual salary of a statutory probate judge.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 25.0023, Government Code, is amended by
  amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to read as
  follows:
         (a)  Subject to Subsection (a-1), the [The] commissioners
  court shall set the annual salary of each judge of a statutory
  probate court at an amount that is at least equal to the total
  annual salary received by a district judge in the county. A
  district judge's or statutory probate court judge's total annual
  salary includes contributions and supplements paid by the state or
  a county, other than contributions received as compensation under
  Section 25.0022(e).
         (a-1)  A judge of a statutory probate court is entitled to an
  annual salary, not including contributions and supplements paid by
  the state or county, in the amount that is equal to the salary to
  which a district judge with the same number of years of service
  credit in the Judicial Retirement System of Texas Plan One or the
  Judicial Retirement System of Texas Plan Two is entitled under
  Section 659.012(b).
         SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies
  beginning with the first pay period that begins on or after the
  effective date of this Act.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2019, but only
  if S.B. 387, Acts of the 86th Legislature, Regular Session, 2019,
  or similar legislation becomes law.  If that bill or similar
  legislation does not become law, this Act has no effect.
