WHEREAS, Chapter 448, Government Code, provides for the | ||
establishment of a Juneteenth memorial monument on the grounds of | ||
the State Capitol, and the State Preservation Board approved the | ||
location of the monument at its meeting held on February 14, 2003; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Rather than limiting the focus of the monument to | ||
the commemoration of Juneteenth, the legislature supports the | ||
establishment of a monument to celebrate the contributions of | ||
African American Texans to the history of this state at the location | ||
previously approved for a Juneteenth monument; now, therefore, be | ||
it | ||
RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
hereby express support for the establishment of a monument to | ||
African American Texans on the grounds of the State Capitol at the | ||
location approved for a Juneteenth monument by the State | ||
Preservation Board in 2003; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official | ||
copy of this resolution to the executive director and members of the | ||
State Preservation Board. |
